Position Description: As a member of the Technical Services team, this person will report to the Network Services Manager. This position’s primary focus is on day-to-day operations and resolving customer issues for our Microsoft Windows based environment. Responsibilities include building/maintaining x86 Windows 2000/2003/2008 servers, the operation of Microsoft Exchange 2003 & 2007, and maintaining multiple other Windows-based applications. Experience with one or more of the following would also be beneficial; Storage Area Networks (SANs), Linux, Cisco UCS, VMware servers, and blade servers. New project work will also be assigned.
This person will perform diagnostics, resolve problems, escalate problems to vendors as required, work with other group members, and take appropriate actions to assure appropriate and prompt solutions to system, application, and customer problems. In addition, they will also make recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisition, prepare/maintain documentation (both operational and troubleshooting) on systems/services/applications, and provide user assistance to campus staff and faculty. Will install, configure, maintain, document, troubleshoot and upgrade hardware, firmware, peripherals, operating systems, and applications as required. Moderate lifting will be required. Perform other work as required.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Position Requirements: Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field is preferred. Equivalent work experience will be considered. Customer service: self-motivated, quality-focused, excellent documentation and communication Expert troubleshooting and problem resolution: all varieties of hardware and software Security best practices, update management System performance monitoring, reporting, trending, and sizing Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS Windows Server 2003 and 2008 setup and administration, including print services and file sharing (complex folder structure) permissions VB script writing – new and modifications; logon scripts and other general and special purpose Powershell script writing – Exchange 2007 and other general and special purpose Windows Active Directory administration Windows Group Policy administration Microsoft Sharepoint setup and administration Backup client and server administration Microsoft Exchange 2003 and 2007 administration, and conversion activities between them IIS administration, especially for Outlook Web Access HTML coding, especially for Outlook Web Access changes Email conversion between Exchange 2003/2007 and Microsoft Live@edu (Exchange 2010) Microsoft Identity Lifecycle Manager administration, synchronization between AD and Live@edu Blackberry Enterprise Server administration Exchange ActiveSync administration (iPhone, Windows Mobile, etc.) SAN administration using 3Par GUI and CLI commands Fiber Channel switch administration – Brocade, Cisco MDS VMware administration – server setup, Infrastructure Client GUI, server CLI, View Composer, View Portal, Virtual Desktop Infrastructure Hardware setup and management – Dell servers, Dell blade chassis, Cisco Unified Computing System, APC Symmetra UPS, Dell Remote Console Switch Mentoring of junior technicians in operational concepts Change management experience in a corporate or high availability environment
