JOB SUMMARY

Our Systems Administrator installs and configures software and hardware, new application installations, and resolves software and hardware related problems primarily on Windows systems, and possibly on Linux systems as needed.  Set up, configure, and support internal and external networks including new circuits, DSL, ISDN and VPN connections.  Intermediate knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within systems network administration including active directory, and network connectivity.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1.      Install and configure Windows-based systems and applications according to documented procedures.

2.      Supports internal and external networks including new circuits, DSL, ISDN, and VPN connections.

3.      Maintain Windows servers including administering Active Directory policies.

4.      Write, review and troubleshoot scripts for Windows. Set up, configure, and support internal and external networks including VPN connections.

5.      Work with manager to forecast future equipment purchases.  Coordinate and schedule purchasing.

6.      Recommend and implement strategies for improving process and procedures.

7.      Perform on-call and after hours duties as needed.

8.      Serve as an escalation point for Client Service issues.

9.      May resolve software and hardware issues on Linux servers.

10.  Assist with special projects, as needed.

11.  Other tasks as assigned.

 

 

SKILLS               

·         Intermediate knowledge of windows scripting.

·         Strong customer service skills with ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical coworkers.

·         Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.

·         Intermediate knowledge of Windows operating systems.

·         Working knowledge and experience with Unix/Linux operating systems.

·         Self-starter with ability to balance many tasks with changing priorities.  Proven ability to handle a wide variety of tasks and successfully prioritize work.

·         Strong decision making skills.  Able to analyze different options and make a clear recommendation.

·         Detail-oriented and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

·         Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, network and firewall functionality

·         Familiar with Apache and IIS web servers and web clusters

·         Solid understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in direct and related field.  Working knowledge of related disciplines such as networking with an emphasis on the following: HTML, Visual Basic/VB Script, Batch, PowerShell, PERL.

 

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.

 

EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

·         2-5 years experience in a Windows environment required.

·         2-5 years networking experience (including DNS, TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, VPNs, Firewalls)

·         Hardware installation and configuration experience required.
