Systems Administrator/Security Specialist

About the Job

Duties:

The Systems Engineer/Administrator will:

 

·         Perform all-aspects of systems administration and maintenance on servers running Microsoft Windows 2003, the 3Comm and Lucent firewalls Server, client workstations running Microsoft Windows 2003 Professional. 

·         Perform administration and management of the engagement’s Microsoft Project Server.

·         The servers are distributed between the project’s development environment in Reston, Virginia and its production environment in Rockville, Maryland.

·         Maintain the project’s hardware and software inventory records as well and ensuring compliance with project’s software licensing agreements and assist the Project Manager with the procurement functions for all hardware, software and service agreements.

·         Evaluate different software products, such as intrusion detection software or security tools, and provide the management team with detailed written assessments and recommendations.

·         Provide support and expert written recommendations to other projects tasks with issues related to hardware, networking, software, security and other infrastructure related issues. 

·         Liaison between IMC and client to ensure the proper operation, security and connectivity of the project’s development and production environments.

·        Create and maintain project documentation. 

·        Take all necessary measures to maintain the availability, reliability, security and integrity of all systems.

 

 

Technical Experience:

Required Elements: 3-5 years experience in all aspects of the installation, configuration, administration, security and performance tuning of Microsoft Windows 2003 Advanced Server; Windows 2003 & 2007 Professional, and Microsoft Internet Information Server 5.0 and 6.0 in a LAN/WAN environment.

·         Experience in the server and network support of web-based applications.

·         Experience in the administration of firewalls in a LAN/WAN environment.  This includes the ability to create and update firewall rules and to properly interact with the clients firewall team.

·         Experience with server or network security tools, such as application firewalls for web servers, and intrusion detection software as well as the ability to evaluate, recommend, implement and maintain such tools.

·         Good written communication skills with the ability to prepare a number of written documents for management and client review.  For example, technical proposals, status reports, diagrams and incident reports.

·         Good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work in harmony with other team members, the client’s infrastructure group as well as the client.

·         Ability to pass a security background check.

 

Desired Elements:

·         Experience in the administration and troubleshooting of Dell Power Edge servers.

·         Experience in the administration of 3com and Lucent firewalls.

·         Experience in conducting migrations from Microsoft Windows 2003 Advanced Server to Microsoft Windows 2008 Advanced Server.

·         Experience in the design, installation and maintenance of complex networking architectures such as those containing DMZ firewalls, load balancers, fail-over systems, external storage and hot-backup strategies.

·         Experience in maintaining hardware and software inventory records and well as experience in the procurement of hardware and software.

·         Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2008 R2.
