Title: Systems Deployment Specialist II
Location: Dulles, VAProvides deployment, installation, training and support on Consular computer systems, hardware & software on-site for designated customer and staff members. Position covers a variety of tasks for end users including on-site support. Provides systems maintenance support including troubleshooting, problem analyses and assessments for hardware and software systems and assigned projects. Makes recommendations to new end users regarding methods and approaches for using new hardware and software. Provides technical training to client end users on the Consular software and systems that are being deployed. Assures proper, clear, concise and complete technical guidance for use by deployment installers and trainers.
Clearance: MUST BE ABLE TO OBTAIN GOVERNMENT SECRET CLEARANCE. This position is on site with State Department.
Role and Responsibilities:
The Systems Deployment Specialist will work independently and within small teams to support various software and systems related tasks. The individual will be expected to support software development activities, provide ad hoc system administration support, support hardware and software installations, and support other miscellaneous tasks ranging from documentation support to hands-on technical support. Provides concise daily status reporting to management and to the customer while engaged in a deployment.After-hours and weekend support will be required periodically to support deployments.
The individual will be responsible for a number of varying tasks listed below:• Software Development Support: Provide support to the software development lifecycle through requirements gathering/documentation, software design, software testing and end-user documentation including online or hardcopy documentation. Perform software testing as necessary, and document testing results in the software testing plans. Work with end users, developers and other parties to support software products throughout the product’s lifecycle.• Workstation Hardware/Software Installation Support: Assist with the installation and support of workstation hardware in both central and field locations, including QA testing, piloting and configuration. Emphasis will be focused on using Windows XP/7, and peripheral device management.• Training: Conduct technical training on Consular systems deployment procedures to client technical staff. Conduct technical training on Consular software applications to client end user.• Other Functions/Characteristics: Efforts such as preparing and/or reviewing systems documentation (e.g., installation manuals, training manuals, trip reports, etc.) and preparation or support of test plans will be assigned as part of deployment projects. Maintenance of Deployment OpenNet resources (e.g., Self Install Deployment Resource Center, Deployment SharePoint site, etc.) will also be assigned as part of deployment projects.
The Systems Deployment Specialist must use professional oral and/or written communication skills with customers, vendors and coworkers at all times. The Systems Deployment Specialist must exhibit good judgment in interfacing with all government and contract personnel, providing proper examples of work performance, and adherence to professional standards and operational and security guidelines as defined by the Government and Harris Information Technology Services.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training, with four (4) years of experience in installation, training and support on computer systems, hardware and software. Experience may be substituted for educational requirements, and education may be substituted for years of experience.
-Knowledge of workstation and server architecture design in Windows environment
-Experience with Microsoft operating systems (Windows Server 2003, Server 2008, XP, and 7) and MS-office suite (Word, Power Point, Excel and/or Visio)
-Experience with workstation deployment (installation/configuration) and OS migration
-Experience in delivering technical training to end users on software applications and hardware support in a classroom and/or one-on-one setting
-Experience with developing training documentation (lesson plans, procedures, reports, etc.)
-Familiarity with hardware Quality Assurance (QA) and troubleshooting
Local and long distance travel will be required. Travel will be to State Department and vendor/contractor facilities in the Washington DC area, Domestic US cities (primarily CONUS and Hawaii) and U.S. Overseas Foreign Posts. Solo travel to remote and/or dangerous overseas locations is a possibility.
Preferred Additional Skills and Experience:
-Training and technical certifications such as CompTIA A+ and CTT+-Experience delivering technical training via remote training tools such as Adobe Connect and Adobe Captivate- Experience with Microsoft Visio or Microsoft Project-Strong communication skills (written and oral) and the ability to interact with a user base that encompasses widely varied cultures-Excellent documentation skills-Good interpersonal skills-Department of State experienceRequired Education and Years of Experience (Education and experience may be substituted at a ratio of 9 months to 1 year, ex. 9 months of experience equals 1 year of education):A bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical training, with four (4) years of experience in installation, training and support on computer systems, hardware and software.
