Systems Engineer Job Description
I. Position Summary (purpose of the job):
A Proginet Systems Engineer (SE) is responsible for supporting Proginet Sales Executives, alliance partners and distributors win business with new and existing Proginet and channel customers. This responsibility includes technical pre-sales support such as proposals, presentations, product demonstrations and proof of concept project planning and execution. Proginet SEs are also responsible for creating satisfied clients through the installation and configuration of Proginet products, resolution of technical environment and product configuration issues, overall solution planning and implementation, and developing and conducting Proginet product training. Proginet’s SEs are also responsible for planning and executing consumer consulting projects.
II. Responsibilities:
The following SE responsibilities are summarized by SE job functions
Pre-Sales
· Work hand in hand with the Account Executives in all phases of the sales cycle both remotely and by traveling to customers locations for technical and business meetings
· Obtain and clearly document detailed business and technical requirements from prospects
· Support prospects during the installation of Proginet products at prospect sites
· Consult on the configuration and architecture of Proginet products to satisfy specific customer requirements.
· Specifically identify and document needed product enhancements or any technical issues reported by prospects or determined by the SE. The SE should assure resolution and/or closure during the evaluation of Proginet products by prospects.
· Produce "white papers" to support marketing efforts.
Consulting
· Provide post-sales support in the area of customized software, deployment assistance, product upgrades, problem resolution, performance optimization, configuration management, and other professional services.
Second-Tier Support
· Documenting a customer’s technical environment, business needs and the approach taken to address needs of newly signed customers in order to provide a clear understanding to Tech Support of the customer’s environment making for a smooth transition of the customer into the support group.
· Coordinating a conference call with support and newly signed customers for purposes of a smooth transition for the customer from getting technical assistance from the SE’s to now getting support from Proginet’s Technical Support.
· Assisting Technical Support and prospects (after the sale is closed) with resolving product issues and coordinating with Proginet Developers as required.
· Testing product updates released to resolve prospect issues.
III. Required Skills:

· Hands-on skills in installing and configuring infrastructure and/or application software in a wide range of complex small, medium, and enterprise enviroments.
· In-depth knowledge of multiple operating systems, including: Microsoft Windows, Linux/Unix, and IBM z/OS. OS400 experience also a plus
· Hands on experience with two or more of the following application servers: Apache Tomcat, Websphere, JBOSS, and Weblogic.
· Hands on experience with two or more of the following database systems: MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle and DB2.
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP, SSL and underlying protocol concepts.
· Hands on experience with FTP configuration and troubleshooting. Experience with SFTP, SSH, FTP/s, AS/2 is highly desirable. Other managed file transfer product experience (Connect:Direct, SSH, Tumbleweed, GlobalScape, Acellion, etc.) is also desirable.
· Hands on experience with Active Directory and another LDAP such as Sun Directory Server, IBM or Novell is highly desirable.
· Hands on experience with firewall configuration and troubleshooting is highly desirable.
· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of encryption standards (DES, 3DES, PGP, etc.) and underlying concepts is highly desirable.

V. Background/Experience:
· 3+ years of previous professional services, pre-sales, and/or technical consulting experience
· Bachelors Degree in computer science or IT related discipline
VI. Work Location & Travel:
The primary work location for this position is Garden City, LI. SEs can expect to be working at customer and prospect locations requiring overnight travel and accommodations of approximately 25% on average.
