Systems Engineer - Release Management

About the Job

Working for one of the top Asset Management firms in Boston the System Engineer for Release works under the guidance of the Release Manager. The System Engineer is responsible for maintaining, implementing and improving applications used to perform functions related to automation, change and release management. The company leverages Tidal Enterprise Scheduler, Move-IT, Numara Footprints, Team Foundations Server and various other applications in support of operational, SDLC and ITIL functions.


 


Where a Change or Release Manager role is more process/analysis driven the System Engineer for Release applies technology to achieve the process objective. Position works closely with other IT team members to ensure designs and techniques for automation and processing conforms to established organizational standards. The position often is a key technical resource in projects across the enterprise.


 


    Primary Responsibilities


·         Responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems related to automation


·         Evaluate processes for automation and performs supporting design work


·         Evaluate and design automation and workflow related to SDLC migration processes


·         Support the release process with design evaluation for processes moving to production


·         Improve quality of enterprise scheduling and release processes and procedures


·         Acts as a senior technical resource within IT


    Mandatory Requirements


·         Requires a bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in IT


·         Direct experience with enterprise job scheduling (Preferred: Tidal Enterprise Scheduler)


·         Direct experience with workload automation tools


·         Direct experience with implementing applications across the enterprise


·         Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems from initial incident to root cause


·         Ability to research and evaluate new systems and technology to solve business, operations, and technology problems


·         Experience with a variety of the ITIL concepts, practices, and procedures


·         Experience with SDLC activities (software development life cycle)


·         Familiarity with Citrix, VMWare ESX Server, and Microsoft SQL Server 2005


 


Preferred Requirements


·         Direct experience with BMC Blade Logic product


·         Deep understanding of concepts, practices, and procedures related to enterprise scheduling


·         Deep understanding of how to inter-relate or consolidate multiple applications


·         Knowledge of Windows file and share security


·         Experience with Ipswitch Move-IT or similar FTP/File Distribution Application


·         Experience with Querying SQL or Oracle databases in order to mine for data (SQL 2005)


·         Experience with command line processing & scripting (VBScript, WMI, and SysInternals tools)


·         Experience with Linux operating system is a plus


·         Experience troubleshooting Active Directory user authentication problems


·         Experience with remote software installation applications and packaging


·         Ability to analyze application or diagnostic log files to troubleshoot problems


·         2-5 years experience in the financial services industry


·         2-5 years experience working with Windows 2003 Server in an enterprise environment


·         Formal training in either ITIL or Six Sigma disciplines
