General Dynamics C4 Systems provides space-based and ground-based communications products and integrated systems for a multitude of government and commercial applications worldwide. This includes satellite communications ground segment design and development. This posting is for a HW/Systems Engineering to be responsible for HW design and integration of a ground station development program. The successful candidate will be a member of a team of engineers that will perform HW design engineering for a satellite ground system development/modification program. Candidate will participate in requirements analysis and requirements allocation to subsystems and line units. Candidate will be a team member responsible for major ground station subsystem that will be provided by subcontractor that includes ground-based phased array beamforming and satellite receiver systems, from RF signal to baseband data. Primary responsibility of candidate will be in development and integration of this complex subsystem into existing ground station architecture. Candidate is expected to be an active member of the HW/SW design team, accept direction from team leaders, show initiative to complete assigned tasks with minimum supervision, meet or exceed project commitments, and effectively communicate issues and accomplishments to team members. Position may include contact/travel to customers and vendors. BS Degree in a technical field related to electrical or systems engineering +8 years demonstrated results, or equivalent experience. Advanced degree a plus. Highly desirable that applicant have experience in satellite ground station engineering. Specific knowledge/experience with satellite signal processing, including phased array beamforming and demodulation, desirable. System and Subsystem level working knowledge of ground station operation highly desirable. Working knowledge of software, firmware, and hardware real-time processing highly desirable. Responsibly for following WSC policy and procedures to generate Engineering Changes and Engineering Test Notices as required for continued operation of the ground stations. Works with the WSC Integration Group to implement system changes efficiently with minimum impact to ongoing operations. Supports the WSC Engineering processes by working with peers to review and process changes. Provides estimates and supports technical presentations to management and customer representatives. Working knowledge of NASA Engineering policies and procedures highly desirable.
Experience with the large scale satellite communications systems is required. Experience with the Space Network/TDRSS system and its customers is desired. Committed to continuous learning for self.
