Description of Job Duties:
As a member of the Server Services team, this person will report to the Server Manager. This position’s primary focus is on security; documenting processes, creating policies and making sure systems and services adhere to these policies. The candidate should be a self motivated individual, actively seeking ways to improve the security and performance of systems and services.

In addition to the security responsibilities, the position will also require the candidate to perform day-to-day server operations, resolving customer issues for our Microsoft Windows based environment. Responsibilities include system security, building/maintaining x86/x64 Windows 2003/2008 servers, the operation of Microsoft Exchange 2007, the operation of VMware ESX servers, the operation of Microsoft SQL 2000/2005, and maintaining multiple other Windows-based applications. Experience with one or more of the following would also be beneficial; Storage Area Networks (SANs), Linux/OS X, Cisco network equipment, blade server solutions.

This person will perform diagnostics, resolve problems, escalate problems to vendors as required, work with other group members, and take appropriate actions to assure appropriate and prompt solutions to system, application, and customer problems. In addition, they will also make recommendations regarding hardware and software acquisition, prepare/maintain documentation (both operational and troubleshooting) on systems/services/applications, and provide user assistance to campus staff and faculty.

Will install, configure, maintain, document, troubleshoot and upgrade hardware, firmware, peripherals, operating systems, and applications as required. Moderate lifting will be required.



Position Requirements:
Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
Intermediate to Expert Level System Administrator for Exchange 2003/2007.

Intermediate to Expert Level System Administrator for Windows 2003/2008.

Intermediate to expert level System Administrator on VMware ESX servers.

Excellent documentation and communications skills.

Design and document security based policies and procedures.

Design and implementation of security best practices for servers and services.

Theory and operations of backup systems. This includes the entire backup/restoration process for all supported servers/services.

Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking.

Intermediate knowledge of systems monitoring, and long term trending of SLA, performance, and sizing metrics.

Moderate lifting (<70lbs) is required in the course of the day-to-day work.

Exceptional customer service skills.

Problem diagnosis and resolution (troubleshooting) skills.

Desired Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

System Administrator for one or more: Solaris, or Linux.

Microsoft certifications such as MCSE and MCP.

Cisco experience / certifications.

Security certifications such as a CISSP.

Setup and usage of network and systems monitoring and trending.

Web development & Web systems.
