Position Description

Tankerman

Reporting to the Vessel Captain or Gulf Marine Superintendent, this position is responsible for supervising transfers, including safe loading and unloading of liquid barge cargo.   Incumbents in this position must achieve and maintain USCG licensing.

 

Responsibilities will include:

Following all American Commercial Lines (ACL) Safety policies and procedures as well as government regulatory requirements for loading / unloading or transport.

Following pre-transfer inspection requirements.

Executing pre-transfer conference and the Declaration of Inspection.

Connecting cargo hoses or loading arms.

Initiate pumping; increasing pressure appropriately to normal discharge pressure.

Performing calculation of loading rate.

Monitoring all loadings to insure safe and environmentally proper procedure is followed.

Securing cargo systems.

Be able to perform minor repairs to barge equipment.

Perform the duties of a deckhand when not loading or unloading.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Must possess valid, current MMD endorsed license as Tankerman-PIC (Barge) Dangerous Liquids through USCG.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Must take yearly benzene physical and respirator fit test.

Must be able to operate PHD lite four stage gas meters, including maintenance, calibration, operation and reading interpretation.

Must be able to perform mathematical equations to calculate load/unload amounts accurately.

Must be able to read and write to complete Declaration of Inspection and other required documents

Must be able to read, speak and understand the English language as required by USCG CFR.

Must have a high school diploma or GED.

Must have full understanding of deckhand responsibilities.

Must be able to maintain an active TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card).

Physical requirements:

Must be able to work a 28/28 or 28/14 schedule.  Must be able to climb steep stairs or ladders. Must be able to lift or move 60 lbs. independently. Must clear a benzene physical annually.  Must be respirator fit at all times and clear fit testing annually.  Must be able to board vessels, yawls or zodiacs.  Must adhere to safety standards required.
