Tax Manager
About the Job
Oversees the completion of the detailed analysis of holdings and income characterization for funds that primarilly invest in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT's); reviews and approves the wash sale analysis; oversees Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) identification prosess; approves the defaulted bond interest accrual analysis; including identification of defaulted securities.; reviews and approves all tax filings (federal and state); responds to tax notices and FBAR; reviews and provides approval of the calculation of investment company taxable income and net capital gain or loss which is disclosed in the fund's annual reports; reviews and provides approval for all tax disclosure items within the annual and semi-annual reports for all funds; manages completion and dissemination of all 60 day notice requirements and shareholder tax reporting, including calculation of Qualified Dividend Income, Dividend Received Deduction and 1099 reporting; reviews dividend calculations for annual, quarterly and monthly paying funds, as well as final distributions for mergers; maintains matrix and supporting documentation for all tax positions for all funds in accordance with FASB Interpretation No. 48/ASC 740; completes foreign tax reclaim filings; responsible for review of offering documents for new types of investments within the funds to determine if the tax treatment of the security differs from book; oversees tax services provider to insure that annual tax provisions are completed on a timely basis; other duties as assigned.
Requires BS Accounting; 5-10 years of tax accounting experience, including 3-5 years of mutual fund tax accounting experience; 1-3 years of supervisory experience; ability to work effectively in a team environment; detailed knowledge of tax accounting for mutual funds including derivative investments; understanding of financial securities markets; effective interpersonal communication skills; ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities; proficiency with Excel and Word. Must be available for occassional travel. Knowledge of visual basic as used in Excel macros; partnership and master/feeder experience; Confluence knowledge; Certified Public Accountant preferred.
