Tax Manager - Tax Planning

This person will be a member of the tax planning group, responsible for Weyerhaeuser's tax return filing positions as well as for providing tax planning and advice to the business leaders of the company. In addition, this person will help manage US and International tax audits.  The Tax Planning Manager is highly visible and plays a critical role in the company and will report to the Tax Planning Director.
  • Involved with determining the potential tax consequences and making recommendations on mergers and acquisitions, significant business transactions, sales of businesses and restructurings
  • Performs tax due diligence on acquisitions and investments
  • Communicates with management and business leaders on tax strategies and tax ramifications of proposed business transactions
  • Negotiates tax issues with government authorities
  • Researches complex issues and develops authoritative tax positions
  • Provides guidance, technical support, training and mentoring to tax department personnel

Qualifications:

Requirements:
  • Masters Degree in Taxation
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience
  • Prefer CPA
  • Self motivated, with an intellectual curiosity and action oriented
  • Ability to network and influence through positive working relationships
  • Experience with audit negotiations-state and/or federal
  • Sense of urgency in approaching projects
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously, with an ability to prioritize projects by value and importance to company
  • Ability to asses, communicate and mitigate risks
  • Integrity and honesty a must
  • Approachable individual who gains trust and confidence quickly
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.  Ability to communicate complex tax matters to non-tax professionals
  • Attentive to detail, yet understands and applies the degree of accuracy necessary for the task
  • Proficiency in tax research tools
  • Creative, team player, energy and positive attitude!
