Job Summary
Manage a group of direct reports from all levels of the development department team. Lead technical teams through all phases of the project lifecycle and produce required deliverables personally and/or through project staff. Assume lead responsibilities for defining, designing and estimating technical work, laying out technical work plans, assigning technical staff and overseeing quality of technical specification and code. Accountable for the timely progression and delivery of technical project components.
Essential Functions
· Understand and communicate technical and functional design requirements
· Understand and work within design, code, and test technical solutions
· Understand the necessity of and contribute to coding standards
· Understand project expectations as communicated by the client and/or the Project Manager
· Recognize and effectively communicate when issues/events may affect deadlines/deliverables of a project
· Accurately prepare written business correspondence that is coherent, grammatically correct, effective, professional and engaging
· Identify system deficiencies and recommend solutions
· Assist with client server and internet systems architectures specifications
· Assist in enforcement of development deadlines and schedules
· Lead technical team through all phases of the project lifecycle
· Manage all technical aspects of projects throughout the project lifecycle
· Assist employees with issues/concerns
· Coach employees on career development
· Foster communication within team
· Manage up to 6 or 7 direct reports from all levels within the development department including setting goals and objectives, assessing quality of work, and conducting performance appraisals for direct reports
Other Functions
· Participate in developer interview process
· Assist in the creation of prototypes for client engagements
· Perform the role of Team Lead on projects
· Communicate with clients as required
· May perform other job related duties as assigned
Education, Experience and Other Skills
· Minimum of 5 years experience in Software Engineering with at least 2 of those years managing projects and/or technical teams
· Consumer facing web development management experience required
· Demonstrate understanding in multiple programming languages
· Demonstrate understanding in front/middle/backend technologies
· Possess specialized knowledge in at least two tiers of development
· Understand hosting systems
· Promote active listening with team members and contribute appropriately to conversations
· Experience mentoring and educating technical team members
