Organization Objective/Purpose:


The Active Investor Technology – Production Support team supports Schwab’s client facing active investor platforms such as StreetSmart Pro and StreetSmart.com.  We are a nimble, client and product driven organization using agile processes and new technologies to quickly bring software products to market for Charles Schwab active trader clients.


 


Brief Description of Role:


AIT is looking for a Database Support Engineer with strong MS SQL Server skills and database administration experience to support various AIT databases.  This role will work closely with the database developers, production support, datacenter operations, database administrators, and Quality Assurance.


 


Technical/Functional Qualifications:
- Working expertise with MS SQL Server 2005 / 2008 and its related components (3 years + experience).
Superior knowledge and experience with T-SQL (5 years + experience)  with a focuse on query optimization.
- Strong DTS and SSIS development skills (2 years + experience).
- Experience using a variety of reporting tools (MS SQL Server, MS SQL Server Analysis Services, Business Objects XI, Crystal Reports XI, Excel.
- Work flexible hours, outside standard business hours, as required, to apply system maintenance, upgrades or to perform project implementation activities, and as needed to help troubleshoot and repair the production databases to minimize client impact.  .
- Provide 2nd level escalation contact for troubleshooting, with end-to-end ownership for technical support and problem resolution in a timely manner.  
- Assist with creation and validation of documentation for Operational Continuity, Support Manual, Disaster Recovery, and morning/evening Check Lists.  
-.Responsible for validating and vetting Change Requests to ensure compliance, including verification checks & fallback procedures.
-.Participate in post incident reviews and execute follow up actions.
-.Perform regular data quality audits and correct discrepancies.
-.Experienced in database technologies in such areas as database storage structures, high throughput disk I/O algorithms, network I/O, query execution, transaction management, massive parallel processing, in memory and disk-base sorting, and join processing.
-.Proposes and implements changes that will improve the performance and reliability of the databases.
-.Establishes and maintains controls/processes to ensure the integrity of the data.
-.Provides MIS reports as needed.  



Education Required
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or above in a related field is required.
