Position Overview
Preventive Maintenance
•Perform activities required to keep assigned switch in operation.
•Operate and maintain switch infrastructure. This maintenance involves monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual tasks to be completed including testing alarms using a variety of test equipment.
•Monitor, diagnose and troubleshoot network alarms.
•Plan and perform administrative tasks.
Emergent Repair and Customer Care
•Provide hands-on switch trouble resolution related to network system and non-system outages.
•Perform system backups.
•Call in troubles to the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) or vendor.
•Understand vendor specific output messages.
•Troubleshoot, maintain and repair cross-connections.
•Prepare to be on-call 24/7 to the MSC to resolve trouble tickets opened by the NOCC and/or Customer Care Center.
•Use Telco theory to test and resolve OC circuit and DS1/DS3 issues with test equipment.
•Work with other team members to resolve OC circuit and DS1/DS3 problems.
New Site and Site Update
•Integrate new sites.
•Upgrade software and equipment.
Inventory Management
•Receive tools, parts, and inventory.
•Scan tools, parts, and inventory.
Project Management
•Provide market level project management for new technology and site changes/updates.
Requirements

Education
Describe the minimum education & training needed to perform this job. Include certificates, licenses or registrations.
Required 1.) AA Degree in Electrical Engineering Or Computer Science or equivalent job experience.
Preferred 1.) Unix Training.
2.) Vendor switch and site certifications on Lucent equipment,
3.) CCNA or JNCIA or other vendor-specific certification preferred.
Industry Experience
Describe the applicable industry
Required 2 years of advanced communications industry experience with data networking technologies and/or troubleshooting.
Preferred 3 years of Telecommunications industry experience
Job Experience
Describe the type and minimum years of experience needed to perform the job.
Required 2 years experience using applicable vendor analysis tools to identify equipment related problems.
2 years Switch, IT or Field Tech-related experience.
Preferred 3 years Telecommunications technical-related experience, including: hands-on experience with operating a TCP/IP based network, experience with tier 1 and 2 troubleshooting support for a data network and basic proficiency with network Sniffer and connectivity verification tools.
