Technical Copy Editor w/ Data Storage Experience (Part-Time & Telecommute)

We are working with our client in locating a Technical Copy Editor to copyedit technical web-based and instructor-led courses. In this role, you will edit 1,500 pages/month with a fast turn-around time (average 100 to 150 pages per day).  Content varies from instructor-led training manuals (600-700 pages) to web-based courses (75-100 pages). 


 


Some of the materials is written by engineers and is quite technical, although you will not be approving coding (others test out coding).  Some of the materials is written by non-native English speakers in India and other countries and needs a lot of editing.  A PDF guide will be provided for editing guidelines with definitions.  The audiences vary from the client’s employees, partners and/or clients (how to use) to salespeople (how to sell).  Each audience needs to be addressed in their own writing style. 


 


The client has 100 employees providing content continually for editing and needs support on an on-going basis.


 


Requirements:



  • 2+ years of experience in Technical Editing in a corporate setting, with emphasis on data storage, technical background. 

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Rhetoric, Journalism or related field.

  • Ability to edit concisely, clearly, assertively (makes visible changes vs. offering many questions or open-ended comments which bog-down writers who approve final documents), adapting according to audience.

  • Knowledge of common tools such as Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, Website Content Applications, FTP File Transferring.

Start Date: Second week of January


 


Duration: On-Going; 1 Technical Editor almost full-time (30-40 hours per week estimated; around 1,500 pages of content per month); plus 1 part-time Technical Editor (sporadic relief for peak periods when other Editor is unavailable)
