The Technology Director oversees and provides technical leadership to the Technology discipline and supports new business efforts. This person analyzes business problems and proposes innovative engineering solutions in close collaboration with the other disciplines. A Technology Director must have deep technical skills and a track record for creating senior level client relationships. The Technology Director must also have operational and team leadership experience at a digital agency or consultancy.

 

Core Duties/Responsibilities:

 

Technology Core Skills

• Provides technical and business oversight to all projects within the office

• Delivers points of view on key industry topics. Is seen as expert in technology disciplines core to our industry around web and media application technology.

• Works with alliances and partnerships to ensure deep understanding and business development of core technologies like Microsoft, Moss, ATG, Interwoven, Silverlight, etc.

• Stays up to date on the latest object, component, database, and infrastructure methodology and technology (e.g., via technical journals, conferences, and personal research).

• Ensures that the technology group is constantly acquiring new technology skills, as well as enhancing and growing the current skills within the group. Research new products and technologies to determine fit with the overall application architecture.

 

Business Development / Client Relationships

• Partners with client engagement on the technology aspects of client relationships, pursues client leads (in partnership with business development and client engagement), and creates new leads.

• Partners with business development on the development of the technology sections of proposals, coordinating activities of other team members and ensuring proposal addresses client needs with technology and strategic thinking

• Very comfortable delivering presentations to prospective clients, demonstrating value of hiring our client.

• Accurately scopes new work, ensuring project profitability

• Works with the Client Services' teams and Project Managers during pre-production meetings to translate the client's business requirements to a sound technical architecture/approach. Oversees the execution of the technical strategy once the clients' approval is obtained.

• Assists in identifying and developing new customers and projects by providing technical guidance while collaborating with business development

 

Management/Leadership

• Mentors and grows technology architects within the office.

• Sought out as a mediator to help resolve conflicts because of expertise and temperament

• Develops career management strategy and maps out a plan with career manager. Assembles appropriate documentation for performance reviews.

• Helps set and communicate metrics for the technology community.

• Acts as career manager, actively providing mentorship and guidance.

• Key decision maker In hiring process, selecting appropriate candidates based on understanding of skills and project needs

• Participates weekly in resource management discussions, ensuring

appropriate project assignments

• Works with regional Group VP to ensure utilization targets are met and region has appropriate skill mix to meet project needs

 

 

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:


• 10+ years of related overall experience, which includes at least 7 years’ experience in a consulting environment and 5 years successful experience with management/operations, project estimation, staffing, resource allocation, pre-sales support, as well as the following:


• Bachelors in Computer Science, Engineering or comparable degree. MBA or relevant Master's Degree preferred.


• Thorough understanding of digital, and experience delivering sounds technical solutions in that space.


• Leadership: Demonstrated communication skills with customers, management, members of the other practices, and members of the technology practice. Excellent team building and leadership skills. Highly self-directed. Able to multi-task given incomplete and conflicting knowledge, and prioritize multiple projects/initiatives in a deadline-driven environment. Strong interpersonal skills, a positive attitude and the ability to thrive in a collaborative agency environment with multi-disciplinary teams required.

• Business Management and Administration: Demonstrated knowledge of project planning, staffing, and estimating in an iterative software development process. Ability to interview, recruit and train technical professionals in the Internet consulting services market. Able to document employee performance, personal development plans and salary reviews in an efficient and effective manner. Working knowledge of the profit and loss accounting issues related to the Internet consulting services market.


• Sales and Marketing: Working knowledge of the sales cycle dynamics in the Internet services market.


• E-commerce: Expert in the e-commerce business. Expert knowledge of the e-commerce domain and web technologies. Expert knowledge of major e-commerce packages.


• Requirements Engineering: Working ability to perform requirements elicitation, requirements analysis using use case modeling, and requirements specification as a supporting member of the requirements team. Working ability to identify architecturally significant requirements and their ramifications.


• Application Architecture: Expert knowledge in software architecture principles. Expert knowledge in distributed object development. Working ability to identify architecturally significant requirements and their ramifications. Working ability to make engineering tradeoffs between conflicting architecturally significant requirements. Good knowledge of Web development, and of multi-applications application architectures. Good working knowledge of developing application on multiple platforms


• Application Design: Mastery of object-oriented and pattern concepts (e.g.,

abstraction, encapsulation, inheritance, polymorphism, and model view controller). Practical and successful experience using at least one major object-oriented development method (e.g., Rational Unified Process, OPEN, Booch, OMT, Objectory, Design by Contract, Responsibility Driven Design). Good design skill at the application/component/package/module level. Able to design small system applications, and medium-sized software applications. Expert ability to use analysis, design, and communications patterns.

• Specific technology skills specializing in web technology including content management systems, portals, ecommerce, marketing technology, and digital dashboards.


• Experience with products from vendors like IBM, Microsoft, Open Source (JBoss, Tomcat, etc.), ATG, BEA, Sun, Interwoven, Documentum, Macromedia, and Vignette. Complimentary experience with search technologies from like Autonomy, Verity, Lucene, Endeca, and EasyAsk.
