The Technical Director leads the product design process of his/her business area, and is responsible for providing a work environment that encourages excellence. This is accomplished through attracting and retaining talented engineers, and ensuring that engineering team leaders are appropriately utilized and challenged.



The incumbent leads the professional development of the Engineering Team Leaders/Managers who report to him/her. Each leader/manager leads an Engineering Team that includes design engineers from the electrical, mechanical, software and systems disciplines as required.



Engineering Teams are responsible for the execution of complex engineering development programs. The incumbent serves as the final authority in all aspects of the process of new product design, from program award to initial product build. The incumbent has ultimate responsibility for meeting product development quality, cost and schedule, benchmarks for assigned programs, and makes the final decisions regarding critical technical and design issues.



Among the key challenges facing the incumbent are to make continuous improvements to the product design process that will shorten development cycles and to build the skill base of his or her organization.



The ideal incumbent has extensive experience with engineering development programs and has an in-depth knowledge of design engineering principles. S/he also must be a highly skilled planner, and should be familiar with project scheduling and tracking methods, and cost accounting principles.

The technical director functions in a fast-paced, challenging, competitive and ever-changing environment. Achieving customer satisfaction is critical to the Division as an aerospace systems provider.

The typical incumbent will possess a master's degree in an engineering discipline; a bachelor's degree is required as a minimum. S/he will have at least 15 years' experience in product development including hardware and software elements. S/he also possesses an extensive engineering knowledge of the aspect of aircraft operation and systems that are applicable to his/her business area.
