Technical Documentation Writer



Job Purpose:

  • Provide customers, partners, and employees with technical information in a print or online format that describes Pegasystems' rules-based product offerings so that they understand the benefits of this technology, as well as how to use the technology in their business; and determine the best way to present information to meet the needs of the audience.
Key Result Areas:
  • Continually increase depth and breadth of knowledge about Pegasystems' products, and develop domain expertise to ensure high-quality, accurate documentation.
  • Determine the best format (extranet Web page, Help system topics, user guide, etc.) to present information to meet audience needs.
  • Produce customer-focused documentation (print and online) according to plans and schedule, ensuring that the documents are accurate and meets audience needs.
  • Interact regularly and effectively with product managers, software developers, technical trainers, QA engineers, and other departments as necessary to develop good working relationships and acquire the product information that appears in our documentation.
  • Evaluate Pegasystems' software products, and provide feedback to Engineering and Product Management as appropriate to improve usability and value.
  • Interface effectively with various areas within the company so that other groups understand the services we can provide.
  • Other responsibilities and key result areas as required or assigned.
Functional Expertise:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of good technical writing through written materials: able to explain concepts and processes clearly and effectively in writing.
  • Understands how to organize and present a variety of technical material to a variety of audiences.
  • Can produce both print and online documentation using various software tools, and can teach others in the group.
  • Understands the computer technologies that support Pegasystems' products, and can learn new features or products quickly.
  • Keeps current with new trends and development in software technologies
  • Knowledgeable in using one or more of the following technologies: HTML, XML, JavaScript, SQL
  • Takes responsibility for the assigned work and produces results as promised.
  • Makes and keeps commitments; meets schedules and deadlines and completes assignments, projects, and goals within the allotted timeframe and budget.

Sphere of Influence:
  • Interact with software development teams, product management teams, other technical writers, trainers, and other groups as necessary; and support the Director of Knowledge Products and all writers in the group.
Minimum Level of Education:
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Technical Writing, English or the equivalent
Type of Experience and Minimum Number of Years:
  • 3 to 5 years of technical writing experience; experience includes writing various types of reference, procedural, and tutorial documentation, and the ability to learn any tools associated with the job.
