THE ROLE

The successful candidate for this position will serve as a technical resource in support of Research and Development, plant quality, manufacturing, and customer support. The candidate must be independent and highly motivated as well as having substantial core knowledge of, and experience with, synthesis of materials, processes, applications, and characterization techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to lead and support multidisciplinary projects from conception through manufacturing transfer. The candidate will participate in the supervisory process, including training and coordinating work for key projects.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Develop new products and processes through synthesis, functionalization, and modification
  • Design, develop, and synthesize novel and relevant polymers
  • Define resin requirements for product development
  • Provide technical assistance to optimize and enable manufacturing processes
  • Conduct statistical analysis of processes, reactions and properties
  • Evaluate and characterize polymer performance behavior

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • 5 years minimum relevant experience
  • Ph.D Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or equivalent field

 

SPECIFIC SKILLS & EXPERIENCES

  • Strong and proven trouble shooting skills
  • In depth knowledge of Polymer structure-property relationships
  • Understanding of reaction kinetics and polymerization techniques
  • Hands on experience with conventional polymer processing techniques
  • Understanding of most analytical techniques available
  • Diverse polymer experience
  • Strong capabilities in statistical design and analysis of experiments
  • In-depth background in process and product development
  • Must function well within a team oriented organizational environment
  • Detail and results oriented
  • Excellent written and oral communication and documentation skills
  • Exceptional computer skills for word processing, database, presentation, statistical analysis, spreadsheets
  • Ability to convey technical information to non-technical personnel
  • Ability to mentor junior staff members
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently
  • Familiar with GLP, GMP, and ISO 9001 quality systems
