SUMMARY OF POSITION:



Designs and develops new breakthrough technologies that could be translated into revenue generating products by applying the knowledge base of complex science disciplines. Imparts learning of these technologies to others to develop new products or improve existing products and processes.



Responsibilities of the position:


  • Develop new to the company technologies and processes through exploration towards commercialization of new products.
  • Adapts new technologies to develop innovative products that meet specific needs of end users. Takes external raw technologies and find ways to incorporate into potential products for consideration by product management.
  • Leads and coordinates all aspects of commercialization and qualification of new products from lab scale through successful market introduction
  • Functional expert. Identifies and implements operational improvement opportunities for internal manufacturing and 3rd party vendors.
  • Evaluate new vendor capability and capacity to enable fast paced new product development
  • Maintains the commercial viability of products and processes through continued product and process improvements and optimization.
  • Determine development cost estimates
  • Establish technical manufacturing feasibility of new product concepts
  • Identify development and manufacturing capital equipment requirements
  • Collaborates with product and process development teams to insure translation of outside technology into viable Crayola products.
  • Identifies and develops new business opportunities based on the review and evaluation of inside and outside technologies that have the potential for development into new or improved products.
  • Initiates contacts and form partnerships with companies that have the raw technologies needed and negotiates costs, uses, etc., of these technologies.
  • Plans, schedules, and supervises the work of technician(s) assigned ? designing experiments, interpreting and communicating results to management.
  • Complies with federal and state Hazardous Waste regulations including proper handling, storing, labeling, and familiarity with Crayola?s Emergency Action Procedure in the event of a spill or leak.




Basic Requirements of the position:



  • Bachelor?s degree in Chemical or Material Engineering
  • 4-5 years experience in the commercialization of consumer products.
  • 8 to 10 years of experience, in a technology driven environment.
  • Advanced knowledge in product formulation, evaluation and testing.
  • Ability to travel a maximum of 40%.
