Develops, coordinates, implements, and/or administers public affairs programs directed primarily toward the media and the military. Develops, implements, and administers policies responsive to organizational objectives. Reviews material intended for public release to ensure that it represents the best interests of the U.S. Navy and is consistent with established NAVAIR public affairs objectives and policies. Plans, prepares, and disseminates information such as press releases. Serve as internal experts, consultants, and project managers and represent NAVAIR to external groups.
Supports NAVAIR with professional communication planning, writing, photographic, and design skills. Identifies various communication needs and implements complex communication plans. Drafts and copy edits news releases and feature articles for media release. Performs research, conducts interviews, writes and edits copy and obtains release approval for resulting articles. Designs and lays out marketing publications and monitors Web sites. Develops and edits presentation materials. Supports publications with photographic services.
Specifically, this position will require serving as liaison between more than 100 unmanned platforms, including unmanned ground, surface and sub-surface systems. Some travel may be required. The position will work as part of a public affairs team that includes representatives from PEO(U&W)'s unmanned aviation programs. The position will require high-visibility communication planning at DoN and DoD levels, successfully networking between many diverse organizations, as well as helping formulate strategic key messages and adapting technical information for public and Navy-wide dissemination using multiple media formats including print, broadcast, and Web.
Bachelors Degree required with a minimum of six (6) years experience. Must have public relations experience and experience with developing strategic plans. NAVAIR experience preferred. Must have experience designing and laying out marketing publications. Must have strong proofreading skills. Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment substance abuse test.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a clearance at the SECRET level.
More than 8 years professional experience. Management is typically the next higher level.
