Regional Safety Manager

About the Job

The Regional Safety Manager is responsible for the implementation, evaluation and improvement of the USA Truck, Inc. Safety, Compliance and Security Management System by focusing on the continuous improvement of collision/injury reduction, driver training, DOT compliance and CSA BASIC scores.  The Manager will drive operational accountability to ensure driver and company compliance with all company and governing regulations.  As point of contact for Operations and Terminal Management, the Manager will drive execution of both strategic and tactical initiatives at the terminal and fleet level. 


Successfully filled, the Regional Safety Manager will improve performance in all primary safety metrics; improve company-wide safety, compliance and security awareness; drive consistent implementation and execution of strategic and tactical initiatives; improve regulatory compliance; and reduce all CSA BASIC scores.

·         Contribute to tactical and strategic Safety, Compliance and Security planning, including organizational rollout of these plans

·         Drive field execution of tactical and strategic initiatives

·         Delivery of Safety, Compliance and Security training

·         Communicate Location Performance

·         Conduct trend analysis

·         Work with operation management in the development of location-specific action plans

·         Drive operational ownership and accountability for safety performance

·         Establish and maintain effective working relationship with location management and drivers

·         Conduct regulatory and procedural audits

·         Facilitate and participate in investigations

·         Execute Focus Account Strategy

·         Participate in award recognition events

·         Conduct Annual Performance Evaluations of staff (if applicable)

Qualifications and Education Requirements

·         BA/BS Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Loss Prevention, Risk Management or related field required

·         3+ years of direct field safety experience in managing employee/contractor Safety & Health, environmental and fleet safety management

·         Intermediate spreadsheet, word processing, and other applications skills

·         Good verbal and written communication, reading, organizational, presentation, interpersonal and team building skills, and reasoning, problem solving and analytical ability

·         Advanced ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

·         Knowledge and general understanding of all aspects of transportation logistics business

Preferred Skills

·         Candidates possessing or in pursuit of any of the following certifications are preferred:  Certified Safety Professional [CSP], Associate Safety Professional [ASP], Certified Safety Supervisor (CSS) or Certified Safety Director [CSD]

·         Smith System Defensive Driving Certified
