Test Engineer

Requirements

Be a part of the unprecedented shift to media delivery over the internet. This position is for a Test Engineer supporting Level 3's Content Markets Group. The successful candidate will test one of the world's leading Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) running on one of the largest and most advanced IP networks. This challenging position involves working on distributed systems deployed on a massive scale unmatched in almost any corporate computing environment.

To succeed in this role, you must possess keen analytical skills and you must thrive on complexity. Attention to detail is important, and the desire and ability to learn quickly is critical. Superior communication skills are required in order to discuss subtle and complex technical matters with a wide variety of stakeholders across multiple organizations. You must bring the abilities to work independently and to succeed as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will possess the several years professional test experience necessary to accomplish the following responsibilities:
- Planning a test strategy based on business requirements and system architecture
- Designing original testing solutions to dynamic and complex system requirements
- Planning, developing and maintaining test assets - regression scripts, test harnesses, lab environment
- Testing manually in some cases, automating tests in others, and exercising the judgment and restraint to choose test techniques wisely
- Documenting the test effort
- Using tracking tools effectively to report and document defects
- Tracking test execution and reporting issues and status clearly

This position demands strong technical skills:
- Experience working with lab assets, including Linux/Unix and Windows. Administration skills are a very useful plus.
- Experience with web technologies including Apache, and an understanding of client-side and server-side HTTP behavior.
- Experience with Content Delivery Networks is desirable, streaming servers (Flash Media Server) especially
- Test automation skills, and/or a development background including the ability to work with scripting languages (Perl esp.) as well as formal programming languages including Java
- Understanding, adhering to, and improving test process
- Working against multiple concurrent assignments and adhering to delivery commitments
