Summary: The Transportation Manager is responsible for management of all transportation functions including budget, fleet status, driver training, driver safety programs and routing efficiency to ensure accurate, timely delivery of product in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Ensure DOT compliance as well as OSHA rules and regulations are followed. Optimize routing and maintain proactive communication with internal staff and customers on route changes, delays or early deliveries. Must have a strong analytical background and be KPI driven.

Responsible for truck routing and route sequences in order to maximize efficiency
· Ensure transportation is being managed to budget
· Develop future budgets based on customer forecast as well as develop and substantiate capital request
· Proactive communication to internal as well as external contacts regarding route changes, delays, or early deliveries
· Maintain routing system to ensure maximum routing efficiency.
· Manage driver force and ensure proper driver training programs are administered timely
· Ensure driver logs are complete and accurate
· Ensure full DOT compliance and OSHA rules are followed
· Coordinate driver meetings and training sessions
· Investigate accidents according to Company best practice
· Oversee dispatching function to maximize efficiency and customer satisfaction
· Audit DOT files and driver logs for accuracy and compliance
· Provide corrective coaching to driver force, dispatch and driver support staff
· Promote driver safety and administer driver safety programs
· Ability to effectively negotiate third party carrier rates
· Effectively manage and evaluate backhaul opportunities
· Other duties and special projects as requested
· Must maintain good attendance.

· Maintain safeguards of confidential company information.
· Ability to analyze routing efficiency while being sensitive to customer needs.
· Strong Organization and time management skills.
· Knowledge of Roadnet, RIC and GPS on board computer.
Other duties may be assigned, as needed or warranted, by management.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Transportation. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Also directly supervises non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Competencies: To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); a minimum of three (3) years previous transportation/logistics management experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Union experience required. Six Sigma is a plus.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematics.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Computer Skills: General computer skills, Tolas, WMiS system knowledge and RoadNet. Microsoft Office skills to include Word, Excel and Outlook.
Certificates and Licenses: Valid Driver’s License.
