Under general supervision, the Treatment Planning Coordinator consults with patients, and dentist and oral surgeons to answer questions related to treatment recommendations. Educates patients about options available to them to pay for treatment. Ensures that patients leave the practice well informed, with all their questions answered about treatment options and fees. Contacts insurance providers/vendors to troubleshoot and resolve treatment plan coverage issues. Reports to the Dental Practice Manager or Supervisor.
Essential Functions
' Discusses treatment options with the patient and answers questions, using the treatment plan developed by the dentist. Ensures that patients leave the practice well informed, with all their questions answered about treatment options and fees.
' Verifies and reviews the patient's insurance coverage for the planned procedures. Troubleshoots and resolves treatment plan coverage issues with insurance providers/vendors; create and recommend treatment alternatives as needed.
' Adheres to clinical protocol for the planned treatment, assists patients to schedule the treatment in such a way as to support the patients' financial needs.
' Educates patients about payment options such as third party financing and health care reimbursement accounts.
' Documents financial arrangements and payment plans for treatment, as agreed to by the patient.
' Tracks incomplete treatment plans and calls patients with incomplete treatment plans to encourage treatment compliance.
' Monitors treatment plans and prepares reports on rates of case compliance for the dental practice manager's review.
' In oral surgery, verifies insurance eligibility and coverage for consults prior to the visit.
' Obtains necessary prior authorizations for specialty treatment, in accordance with various insurance requirements.
' Performs all job functions in compliance with applicable federal, state, local and company policies and procedures. Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent education, training or experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Skills and Experience: Requires understanding of dental insurance rules typically acquired through at least three years related experience in a dental practice. Excellent organizational skills, exceptional communication skills, high degree of critical thinking and judgment, and an understanding of dental insurance rules are required. Strong interpersonal skills needed with the ability to interact effectively with patients and dentists in every specialty. Ability to show high level of sensitivity to patient needs and concerns. Must be able to provide accurate information about the planned treatment, and project confidence and enthusiasm when presenting the treatment. Sound judgment with the ability to work and make decisions in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multi-task is essential. Excellent computer skills required. Familiarity with Dental Practice Management systems strongly preferred.
