Job Description

Keep the Nation moving forward in the Army National Guard. In the Guard, the Truck Driver is the Soldier who makes sure other Soldiers and their supplies get where they need to go, either by supervising the transportation team or by operating the vehicle. This is the way the Guard Truck Driver plays an essential role in the accomplishment of many Guard missions and the skills you learn in the Guard will help prepare you for a career and future as a tractor-trailer, heavy truck or bus driver.

 

As a Soldier in the Army National Guard, you join an elite group of warriors who train part-time to be ready full-time, should their State or Nation call them to serve. The Guard is the oldest branch of the military and its members have a long and noble history of serving at home and abroad to ensure the safety and freedom of their fellow citizens.

 

Major Duties

  • Operates all wheeled vehicles and equipment over varied terrain and roadways for support of combat operations
  • Manages loading and unloading of personnel and cargo
  • Secures cargo against inclement weather, pilferage, and damage
  • Employs land navigation techniques
  • Operates vehicle mounted radios and weapons
  • Performs vehicle self-recovery and field expedients to include towing vehicles
  • Prepares vehicles for movement/shipment by air, rail, or vessel

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED (If you do not have a diploma or GED, you may still apply – ask a recruiter about how the Army National Guard can help you earn your GED)
  • Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • Must be able to pass a physical exam
  • Must meet citizenship requirements (see www.1-800-GO-GUARD.com for details)
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must have normal color vision
  • Must be able to lift very heavy objects
