Truck Shop Mechanic

About the Job

Rio Tinto Minerals (RTM), part of the Rio Tinto group, has an immediate opening for a Truck Shop Mechanic based in Boron, California.  The position is located on-site at our Boron Operations in the Refinery Services department.

Truck Shop Mechanics make repairs and perform preventive maintenance to ensure the optimum operating efficiency of equipment in the Mining Department.   The following list of essential job duties is not all-inclusive; Truck Shop Mechanics are required to perform other duties as directed by the Department Supervisor.

The successful candidate will be able to:

§  Coordinate the Mechanic’s function with overall Plant operations.

§  Diagnose mechanical malfunctions of all mobile equipment.

§  Disassemble repairs and reassemble mobile equipment to ensure that it is capable of operating at maximum efficiency.

§  Diagnose and repair electrical propel drive systems.

§  Connect or disconnect control circuits or electrical components.

§  Lubricate and fuel all mobile equipment according to an established schedule and maintains daily reports of lubrication and maintenance.

§  Perform oxy-acetylene cutting, burning and brazing, uses test instruments to accomplish assigned work, and perform trial tests to determine operating condition of equipment.

§  Install or relocate machinery and equipment, as required.

§  Record essential information on work orders.

§  Perform preventive maintenance inspections.

§  Study information on new equipment and participate in training related to its maintenance.

  • Assist in the training of Truck Shop Helpers.
  • Maintain records, tallies and reports, as required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 4 yrs experience.
  • Must be skilled in diagnosing, disassembling, repairing, reassembling, lubricating and fueling mobile equipment;
  • Must be skilled in oxy-acetylene cutting, burning or brazing and making electrical repairs
  • Must have own tools consistent with a journeyman to perform job.
  • Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and perform basic math.
  • Must have current and valid state civil drivers license.
  • Work all shifts on both a rotating & straight shift basis. 
  • Must work overtime, weekends, & holidays as scheduled.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
