The
User Interface Designer is responsible for leading and actively participating
in the planning, documentation and development of the user interface and user
experience concepts for key features and applications at Rosetta Stone. The UI
designer will champion the end-user and promote user-centered design methodologies,
and will further our basic understanding of users.
The UI Designer will work with Product Development and R&D to create and
implement language learning experiences delivered through PC, Mac and Adobe
Flash-based applications, via web browsers, and directly on mobile devices.
We are seeking candidates with an excellent understanding of usability and
user-centered design principles and development techniques, research
methodologies and a flexible approach to work and an eagerness to learn.
Responsibilities:
* Work closely with usability team members, product managers, development teams
and other internal stakeholders to build storyboards, proof-of-concept mockups,
demos and prototypes of proposed and planned applications and features.
* Collaborate in the definition of user interface design standards for Rosetta
Stone applications, to optimize ease-of-use and achieve an integrated and
consistent look and feel.
* Lead user interface and user experience research and evaluation efforts,
coordinating with key stakeholders in Labs, Market Research, and Product
Development.
* Conduct ongoing research of web-based user interface development best
practices.
* Manage internal and external graphic design partners, coordinating their
efforts in creating final product designs and assets.
* Create and manage a Rosetta Stone styleguide.
Qualifications:
* 10 years of experience in software interface / web design, with specific
expertise with web-based applications
* A Masters (preferred) or Bachelors degree in a related field
* Information Architecture and Graphic Interface Design experience (with
examples)
* Fluency with web standards and technologies, including: CSS, HTML,
JavaScript, JSP, XUL, XAML
* Strong web graphics production capability and practitioner experience with
Flash, Fireworks, and other mockup tools
* Experience with the full product development lifecycle and with
Agile/iterative software development methodologies such as Scrum
* Creative Problem Solving skills
* Ability to do rapid prototyping
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a cross-functional team
* Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
* Self-motivated with a high level of responsibility and professionalism
* Exceptional communication skills (writing, listening, presenting)
* Strong attention to detail
* Strong ability to articulate usability and experience issues and drive common
understanding with stakeholders and partners
