Position Description

UNIX Administrator

This position is for a proficient and energetic Unix Administrator with a complete understanding of how to configure a well-tuned system from the ground up. This individual will be responsible for architecting, designing, building and supporting our UNIX systems, including the Storage Area Networks that is currently EMC, as well as the VMware virtual cluster. The individual will need to have strong LINUX experience, as well as Solaris including Solaris 2.9 and above. Most of the applications run on the LINUX platform, so this individual will need to be intimate with the LINUX operating system. This position will be responsible for capacity planning, tuning, monitoring, production support, etc., of both the UNIX systems and storage systems. This position will be part of the Operations team and will be required to provide off hour support as needed.

Job Responsibilities:


  • Build, configure & performance tune LINUX & Sun servers
  • Configure & performance tune EMC Storage Arrays
  • Oversee and / or perform all aspects of site planned and unplanned maintenance for UNIX systems and EMC Storage arrays
  • Utilize monitoring tools to proactively identify problems with systems & applications
  • Aggressively leads site problems to resolution
  • Informs others of changes made to the environment and applications when changes occur
  • Ability to develop shell scripts to accomplish redundant tasks to simplify distributed administration
  • Follow / enforce processes needed to maintain operational stability, e.g. change control
  • Coordinate and facilitate activities with vendors and escalation support teams
  • Define new monitoring procedures and continually review existing
  • Execute, create and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) as needed
  • Serve as the incident management lead role in technical resolution trouble shooting and remediation
  • Ensure the process and procedures followed are compliant with industry and government legislation such as SOX and PCI
  • Ability to work a 24 x 7 rotational support (on call)
  • Knowledge of Apache configurations for E-Commerce websites
  • Knowledge of Veritas Netbackup and data protection solutions
  • Knowledge of HBA configurations and multipathing for Linux and Windows
  • MySQL applications developed in PHP language

 

Essential Requirements and Qualifications:


  • 5 years LINUX experience
  • 5 years Solaris experience
  • 5 years Unix Systems Administration Experience
  • 3 years Storage Area Network experience (preferably EMC)
  • 3 year’s experience with LAMP Architecture (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP)
  • 1 year experience with VMware ESX server
  • 2 years ecommerce systems supportMySQL applications developed in PHP language
