About the Job

Title:                 UNIX Administrator

Location:         Lakewood, CO


The position will be responsible for deployment, patching, managing and maintaining UNIX systems including all aspects of monitoring and troubleshooting systems. This position focuses on making sure an organization's systems are secure, tuned for optimum performance, delivering required information to end-users, and interacting properly with other systems and providing resources used by customer in conducting scientific analysis, data processing and computer programming requirements.

Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain large-scale UNIX systems (HP, Solaris, AIX & LINUX) and SAN Equipment including the design and development of tools, scripts and applications to assist with such maintenance.
- Integrate and/or consolidate UNIX servers and services between different business units and technologies, including the design and development of necessary integration tools.
- Work closely with application, database and network teams to coordinate system upgrades; maintain optimal performance ensuring appropriate levels of system redundancy are maintained.
- Design, integrate, and maintain network services such as SAMBA, SNMP, SMTP, and LDAP directory services.
- Participate in the architecture design and administration of the backup systems. Work closely with technical staff to insure that backup and archiving processes are implemented properly.
- Perform growth analysis and capacity planning.
- Provide on-call support to clients regarding operational and applications issues.
- Install and debugs software on server platforms.
- Troubleshoot systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems.
- Evaluate new hardware and software technologies; present analysis and purchase recommendations to management.
- Regularly exercise independent judgment and discretion.
- Perform with minimal supervision
- Maintain knowledge with respect to state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
- Able to work independently and to prioritize tasks effectively.

Requirements:
- 5 years experience
- Solid understanding of SAN technology and UNIX-based operating systems, including knowledge of Kernel and network services are highly desirable, as is experience with SAN-attached and network-attached enterprise storage devices.
-Significant experience deploying and supporting high availability, high performance, scalable application infrastructure
- 5 years experience with administration in a heterogeneous Windows/UNIX/Linux environment is essential. - Knowledge of backup hardware, software, and procedures.
- Experience with Data migration and Server migration.
- Knowledge or system monitoring (performance, availability, SLA reporting)

Required prior experience working with:
- Storage Area Networks
- Applications architecture
- scripting languages using Shell or Perl
- Databases such as SQL, Sybase, Oracle, or DB2

Additional experience which will provide added value might include:
- System analysis and design
- System platform migration
- Open source applications (e.g., Nagios and configuration management tools)
- Must be highly skilled and proficient in problem solving and able to follow a systematic troubleshooting approach.
- Able to manage multiple projects and be capable of working in an environment where work priorities can change rapidly.
- Superior communication skills in working with technical and non-technical people and the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships among all levels of an organization.
- A service-oriented approach, with the ability to focus on and deliver assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to work effectively in a team based environment and a demonstrated willingness to support team on all levels to get the job done.
- Require minimum support or supervision and is able to solve most issues and/or challenges independently
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field.
