Job Description:
The candidate will be a member of a team in the definition and configuration of the platforms used in our VIDA product line. The UNIX Architect is responsible for creating platforms that can maintain the highest availability and best possible performance of multiple large-scale public safety voice systems. Once the platforms have been defined they will be responsible for documenting installation, securing and maintenance of these platforms.
Responsibilities will include:
Specify new hardware and operating systems; Develop monitoring tools to proactively identify problems with systems, applications, and networks; Aggressively lead problems to resolution; UNIX workstation administration; Executes/Creates/Updates Standard Operating Procedures accordingly; Coordinate and facilitate activities with vendors and escalation support teams; Implement system changes, jobs and maintenance as directed and work with teams to follow-up on bugs and issues introduced during this process; Ability to develop shell scripts to accomplish redundant tasks to simplify in distributed administration
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of system administration experience in a UNIX environment (preferably Solaris or Linux)
- Experience with TCP/IP and networking principles
- Experience with security and security auditing tools
- Experience with LDAP (Active Directory)
- Experience with UNIX troubleshooting commands in regards to disk I/O, CPU usage, load, and network connections & usage
- Experience with the Windows operating system
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Professional certifications (e.g. SCSA) are a plus
- Demonstrated ability to remains calm under pressure, to smoothly context switch between issues and prioritize them appropriately
- Some programming experience
- Knowledge of VoIP systems
