
Responsible for performing a wide range of Ultrasound procedures including abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological and some vascular exams. Involves extensive interaction with patients and other medical personnel which requires excellent communication skills. Participates in all duties directly involved with the Ultrasound Division. Registry or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the Abdominal and Ob/Gyn specialties is a requirement.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

3. Contributes to controlling expenses by careful attention to supply usage.
4. Contributes to patient/customer satisfaction and quality by ensuring that procedures and standards for own specialty or discipline are upheld.
5. Work requires level of knowledge of anatomy and physiology generally acquired through two years post-high school education in Ultrasound or an allied health science, such as nursing or radiological technology..
6. Work requires knowledge of ultrasound techniques and procedures, and familiarity with sonographic equipment, generally acquired through formal ultrasound training program, usually lasting twelve months didactic and twelve months clinical..
7. Must be registered in Ultrasound (R.D.M.S.) in the Abdominal and OB/GYN specialties within one year of hire.
8. Must have interpersonal skills sufficient to explain procedures to patients and allay apprehensions, and to relay information to physicians.
9. Must have analytical abilities necessary to effectively detect pathologies through understanding of physiological cause and effect of diseases.
10. Must be able to stand and walk majority of work time (80%). push stretchers, and lift and position patients (10%).
11. Erroneous judgment in exercising assigned responsibilities could have a detrimental effect on patients’ welfare. Will be required to supply preliminary interpretation when on-call, which may lead to a more invasive treatment of patient by the attending physician (O.R., chemotherapy, etc.).
12. Work requires one to three months on-the-job training and orientation to acquire necessary familiarity with department policies and variety of procedures.
13. Ultrasonographer I level accommodates new graduates with six months experience or less.
