Web Operations Lead (Charlotte, NC)


The Position:

From our public website to our numerous R&D web applications, the lab environments, and our customer portal, we have a deep and vital online presence that will only increase in importance to the enterprise.

In order to effectively support this environment, EPRI is seeking an experienced Web Operations Lead.  The Web Operations Lead will have overarching responsibility for all web environment activities. 



Job Functions:

Security and Maintenance

  • Ensure optimal patching of all web servers
  • Work in tandem with Information Security Services to lock down all web servers
  • Document with IT all servers and applications running in the web environment
  • Document all third party plug-ins currently running in the web environment and generate an approved list for future applications
  • Review and approve all proposed technologies run in this space
  • Plan and execute consolidation of applications into virtual environments
    • Identify for resolution insecure implementations
  • Define in conjunction with stakeholders new policies and processes designed to improve security and reduce risk
  • Work with ISS and stakeholders to shut down excess and unnecessary servers

 

Monitoring and Benchmarking

  • Establish benchmarking standards and service level agreements with IT for all aspects of the web environment - network, servers, SQL Database, etc.
  • Implement best fit internal monitoring and reporting of application, database, server, network health in the web environment
  • Lead resolution with IT and other stakeholders of identified issues

 

Digital Solutions

  • Work with Digital Solutions team to identify and resolve bottlenecks and single points of failure
  • Assist in the optimization of key member facing applications
  • Give input on solution design and application architecture
  • Identify opportunities to utilize new technologies and practices within the web applications space
  • Single point of contact for Digital Solutions and IT during outages
  • Work in tandem with Infrastructure and Digital Solutions to identify potential impacts of changes proposed by IT
  • Review and improve disaster recovery plans for key applications
  • Manage development and quality assurance environments

 

The ideal candidate should have the following skills and experience:

  • Expert knowledge in operating web environments based on Microsoft technology stack: Server 2008/2005, IIS 5/7, SQL Server 2005/2008, .NET, WCF, SharePoint 2007/2010, Active Directory
  • Moderate/Expert knowledge of Windows and POSIX based Operating Systems
  • Functional knowledge of OWASP standards.
  • Functional knowledge of vulnerability assessment tools (e.g. Nexpose, Nikto, Rational App Scan)
  • Functional knowledge of web application filters
  • Functional knowledge of web log storage and reporting platforms
  • Strong working knowledge of Internet system design, windows clustering, network load balancing, firewalls, DMZ, server hardware, VMWare virtualization, SAN, general network infrastructure, and service oriented architectures.
  • Functional knowledge of LAMP stack
  • Knowledge of cloud based web application deployment and operations a plus
  • Knowledge of compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI-DSS, NIST) a plus


Education Level and Years of Experience

  • 10+ years of technology industry exp. and 5+ web operations
  • 5+ years managing IIS web servers
  • 3+ years managing SharePoint farms, experience with 2010 a plus
  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience

 

EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee's I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
