Sr. Project Engineer Scientist - PDU

 

Location: Knoxville, TN

  

Highly motivated engineer at the EPRI Knoxville laboratory to research, test and field deploy advanced energy efficient HVAC, dehumidification, and water heating systems for residential and commercial building applications.

 

Job Functions:

  • Test advanced HVAC, dehumidification and water heater systems in the EPRI laboratory.
  • Strategize and implement instrumentation and related schemes to measure energy efficiency potential of such systems.
  • Write high quality reports on energy efficiency potential of such systems.
  • Support member utilities in the field deployment of such systems, including the Energy Efficiency Demonstration program.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Superb understanding of refrigeration cycles and overall concepts of energy balance
  • Sound end-to -end knowledge of general HVAC systems and other thermal systems (such as water heaters, dehumidification, etc.) for residential, commercial, and industrial applications
  • Significant working experience in a laboratory environment. Should posses the breadth and depth of knowledge and experience to apply concepts and methods of instrumentation, data collection and analysis, including good computer skills
  • Ability to work with equipment; diagnose, modify and repair or direct repair of thermal equipment
  • Ability to critically review literature
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Self starter with low level of direct supervision

Education Level and Years of Experience: 

  •  Technical or BS degree in Engineering or Sciences with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience. Professional registration or certification desired. Individuals with advance degrees may qualify with fewer years of work experience. Mechanical engineer with a concentration in thermal sciences, Bachelor’s degree with several years of experience or Master’s degree preferred for this position. 

EPRI participates in E-Verify, an online system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration (SSA). EPRI uses the system to check the work status of new hires by comparing information from the employee's I-9 form against SSA and Department of Homeland Security databases.
