National Interstate Insurance Company wants you to add your vision and drive to our team! We’re currently seeking a P&C Underwriter for our General Commercial Department in our Honolulu office. 

Summary

Responsible for risk management needs of the customer and achievement of the strategic and operating plan for profits, production, and services established by the Hawaii Office.

Main responsibilities will include:

• Underwrite risk in compliance with underwriting guidelines, manual rules, and classifications
• Handle policy issuance, endorsements, cancellations, and renewals
• Operating within authority level and maintaining accurate file documentation on new and renewal business
• Responsible for production retention and growth through marketing and sales utilizing negotiating skills, sales techniques and planning, and presentations
• Responsible for continued education of manual rules, classifications, and interpretations of Worker’s Compensation, General Liability, Commercial Auto, and Commercial Property, Inland Marine, Crime, and Business Interruption

Keys to success include:

• Bachelors degree or commensurate experience
• 1-3 years minimum experience in the Property & Casualty underwriting
• Strong PC software competency, including word processing and spreadsheets, and ability to learn current computer systems and programs
• Ability to professionally and effectively communicate via oral and written communication with all levels both internal and external
• Ability and willingness to strengthen and expand individual, technical, and management skills through on-the-job training, assigned self-study, participation in department training activities and seminars
• Ability to make short trips for seminars and marketing trips, including trips to the neighbor islands
