Job Summary:
Hands-on working manager-provides file guidance. May do the work of subordinates. Coordinates the work activities of the unit. Has responsibility for day-to-day work and procedures. Has responsibility for performance, development, and coaching of staff (i.e., hiring, firing, performance, salary increases, etc.). May provide training to new members of the team/unit. Act as a technical resource to his/her staff. Supervises employees in the underwriting function of a business unit. May supervise raters, coders or underwriting assistants.

Team Leader - responsible for the leadership of one or more underwriting teams. Effectively directs and influences team members to meet/exceed customer expectations in delivering quality, timely products and services. Engages team members to effectively utilize Lean tools, techniques and principles to ensure standard processes and procedures are adhered to within the team. Provides team reporting information to ensure achievement of the team target goals of quality, cost and delivery. Directly manages underwriting assistants. However, also works effectively in a matrix organization, influencing and leading both nonexempt and exempt employees who are part of the team, but who may report elsewhere. This Includes matrix management of underwriters and remote operations staff (e.g., Rate Technicians).

Bachelors Degree required. 5-8 or more years of experience managing underwriting teams required.
