KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Supervises a claims examining staff of approximately 8 – 10 in the overall processing of all life insurance, credit, debt cancellation and collateral protection claims on a national level.
· Reviews and authorizes claims exceeding the dollar amount established for Senior Claims Examiners
· Reviews claims to make technical decisions on complex claims referred from Senior Examiners as well as those referred for suspected fraud. Ensures proper reporting procedures are adhered to for all suspicious claims.
· Assigns daily workload, establishes job priorities and checks work of examiners and coding clerks. Maintain daily and monthly records of staff productivity.
· Monitor claim reporting as required and supervises the administration of all claim files and mail as required.
· Supervise the quality and effectiveness of customer contacts via telephone including call monitoring and call management reporting as necessary.
· Conducts staff meetings for coding and examining staff. Trains new employees, keeps other employees up to date on any new business procedures. Performs personnel duties including ongoing performance monitoring, evaluations and development of employees.
· Provides input and recommendations for the budget process.
· Communicates and ensures adherence to policies, procedures and standards. Exercise independent and discretionary judgment within the unit according to department and Company guidelines, existing policies, practices and procedures. Recommends changes to policies and procedures for more effective attainment of goals. Conduct quality control checks on random selections of files for accuracy of payments.
· Should approve claims up to the following limits: Death Claims $85,000, Property Claims up to $65,000, Credit Disability Claims $35,000, Involuntary Unemployment Claims up to $35,000 and Term Life claims up to $150,000.
· Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues. Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
· Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
· Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· A Bachelor’s degree and at least four years Insurance claims experience required
· Strong leadership skills and at least one year of prior claims supervisor experience required
· Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills required
· Strong working knowledge with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access) required
· Affiliations with LOMA and ICA along with several completed courses preferred
