Job Ad Body:

The Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Section provides high quality medical care to critical and emergent patients hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Room of the Foster Hospital for Small Animals. In addition, this service creates a positive learning experience for TUSVM students and house staff with regard to Small Animal ECC medicine and supports the training of specialized ECC technicians.

The Veterinary Technician I:

  • Assists in the instruction of students;
  • Provides client communication;
  • Manages, treats and monitors critically ill and emergent animals;
  • Provides ancillary support including supporting the ECC Animal Care Attendants by providing work direction, answering questions and helping with the maintenance of the section by cleaning and stocking supplies as needed;
  • Other veterinary nursing duties as assigned.

Basic Requirements: High School Diploma or the equivalent with up to one year related experience. Basic computer skills. Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates or Bachelors Degree from a certified veterinary technology program with a strong knowledge base of ECC veterinary medicine preferred. Highly skilled in performance of advanced nursing techniques, ability to think and act independently, ability to assess patient condition and initiate medical intervention in emergency patients preferred. Two or more years of related experience preferred. Ability and interest to learn ECC medicine, advanced nursing skills and patient assessment. Willingness to receive work directions from others, function as a team member and ability to communicate well with peers, students, clinicians and clients. Ability to multitask and meet deadlines, while working in a very busy and sometimes stressful environment. Pleasant, positive, professional attitude in order to interact positively with all individuals involved in the ECC service as well as other services in the hospital.
