VP, Investment Management Services, Product Management

Location: San Francisco, CA 94115

Job Category: Project/Program Management

Job Description

Schwab’s purpose is to help everyone become financially fit. Over the last thirty years, Schwab has grown from a brokerage house into one of the nation’s leading financial institutions.

Organizational Description/Purpose

Charles Schwab Investment Management (CSIM) is perhaps the biggest mutual fund manager you’ve never heard of.  With nearly $250B under management, it is one of the largest asset managers in the industry.  But even more importantly, it’s an important enabler in fulfilling Schwab’s mission of helping everyone be financially fit, and a critical engine of the firm’s growth and profitability.

The Product Management group within CSIM is responsible for developing and managing all the products we offer to clients – money market funds, mutual funds, and separate accounts.  The product managers are responsible for the 4 P’s – pricing, product strategy, working with the field and other channels (place), and promotion.  They work closely with the portfolio managers, with support functions within and across CSIM, and with our three revenue enterprises to grow their products.

 Responsibilities:

The Vice President of Product Management will be responsible for Schwab’s much anticipated ETF offering, our active and index equity funds (in which we recently made a significant financial commitment by dramatically reducing OERs), our expanding lineup of Laudus funds(which use sub-advisors), and our separate accounts.  We expect tremendous growth in assets within these products, and  are making a significant investment in their success by developing new products and enhancing our existing products and distribution activities.

The individual in this role, along with their team of approximately 10 professionals, will be responsible for all aspects of product management.  With an unwavering focus on gathering client insight/input, a willingness and ability to connect with key business partners in the field and within headquarters, a  healthy balance between being an articulate advocate and an objective critic of the product set, and a general manager’s mindset – the Vice President can have a tremendous impact on Schwab’s growth, and become a leader across the firm.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have 15 years of product management and/or product marketing experience.  More importantly, s/he will have a strong consumer orientation and a proven track record of translating consumer insights into product positioning and strategy. Analytical/strategic skills are also mandatory, given the opportunity and nature of the products.  Experience in financial services is a plus, but not a requirement.
