Job Description

This is a CFO position within a globally expanding, pre-IPO, cloud-based software company that recently raised $136 million for continued rapid growth and acquisitions. Headquartered just outside Washington, DC, Cvent is the world leader in online event management, meeting site selection and web survey solutions.

As a key Executive, the CFO is responsible for the financial, operational and risk management for the domestic and international operations of the company. This person will provide leadership in all the financial aspects of the business, including development of the annual and long-term budgets/forecasts, as well as providing analysis and commentary on the financial impact of operational and strategic initiatives of the company. The CFO will also provide leadership for human resources, including organizational development and design, legal and risk management matters as well as asset planning such as real estate and capex.  


Position Duties

·         Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive team

·         Maintain a constant, in-depth working relationship with the CEO and other senior executives

·         Oversight and broad management/​planning responsibilities associated with all areas of finance, accounting, tax, investment and treasury functions

·         Lead and manage annual and interim budgeting and forecasting cycles

·         Develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements, identifying monetary resources; developing action plans, manage budgets and develop tax and cash flow strategies; participate in continual improvement of the budgeting process through education of division managers on financial issues impacting their budgets

·         As part of the leadership team; identify, structure, negotiate and implement complex transactions including M&A, JVs, and partnerships critical to securing and enhancing the long-term growth

·         Lead/resolve operational activities including HR issues, contract and legal negotiations, office and facilities management, budgeting, compensation and bonus plans, and investor communication

·         Evaluate weekly, monthly and annual data and develop it into actionable metrics and recommendations; work with team leaders to increase efficiency and drive continuous improvement within different functional areas of the company Assure appropriate financial management technology platforms and systems are in place to sustain and expand a growth-oriented business that must accommodate double-digit annual growth​

·         Provide financial analysis as needed, in particular for strategic initiatives, capital investments, growth opportunities, pricing decisions and contract negotiations; provide financial input on decision-making issues affecting the company and its divisions

·         Manage the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the finance department’s goals and objectives

·         Manage banking, audit, investor, and other relationships

·         Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile

·         Attend Board meetings and present reports

·         Perform other projects and duties at the request of the CEO and/​or Board of Directors 

 

Candidate Requirements

·         Prior experience as a CFO of a public company with at least $100m in revenue, preferably within the technology or SaaS industries

·         Operations experience including HR, procurement, Information Systems and Legal

·         Must be located or willing to move Washington, DC area

·         The ideal candidate will have SaaS, Cloud and/or recurring revenue experience in a business that has scaled smoothly and effectively at an aggressive compound growth rate

·         A high level of intensity to work with an experienced, motivated leadership team focused on creating a significantly sized company in a short timeframe

·         Entrepreneurial spirit/mindset, flexibility toward dynamic change, while providing stability to the financial planning process.

Management Team: We have eleven people in senior management. We are very experienced in our particular areas as ten of the eleven members of senior management have been with the company since inception almost nine years ago. We are all in the early prime of our careers and most of us have advanced degrees (Harvard Business School, Wharton, Georgetown Law, and Duke Law). We believe in hiring people based on talent, not years of experience. We are motivated and very hungry to grow our company. We promote people on performance and we invest aggressively in our people.


Investors: We raised $17 million in venture capital in 2000 and just recently secured $136 million in funding from two premiere venture capital firms – NEA and Insight.  Other investors include institutional venture capitalists and angel investors such as the CEO of Nortel, CEO of Nextel, CEO of Bell Atlantic, CEO of AOL, and worldwide Chairman of McKinsey Consulting. We have over 30 publicly traded CEO’s who have personally invested in the company; we view this as an endorsement of the product and team.


Customers: Cvent has over 7,500 customers and 90,000 users in over 40 countries. Nearly 70% of our revenue comes from corporate customers. Approximately 30% of our revenue comes from associations, non-profits and universities. Representative customers include KPMG, The World Bank, Rolls Royce, American Marketing Association, Walmart, ExxonMobil, Yahoo, Harvard University, United Way, BMW, and Siemens.
