Farm Journal Media is a mid-market, multi-media company serving the U.S. and soon North and South American agricultural markets. The 133 year old company is headquartered in Philadelphia where it houses its magazine and database licensing divisions: has a television company in Indiana, an Internet company in Chicago and a subscription and live events company in Iowa. Currently the company is seeking a Web Developer for AgWeb, working out of our Park Ridge, IL office.
Reporting to the Website Manger the Web Developer will design, develop and maintain various Farm Journal Media websites, support the existing AgWeb site and contribute to the overall Web Communications strategy and special projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create design prototypes, including graphic design, site navigation, and layout of content, for the all Farm Journal Media web site and for department websites.
- Ensure that the layout of the content is accessible and logical; recommend improvements if necessary.
- Create visual concepts that match the content and the image desired by internal and external clients that fit in the Farm Journal Media image; ensure that sites are easy to navigate.
- Build websites using technologies that conform to international standards and make sure that they are universally accessible.
- Perform maintenance and updates to existing websites when requested by clients.
- Contribute to the overall development of the AgWeb site and of the Farm Journal Media websites.
- Create and Maintain database scripts and stored SQL procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience or other discipline related to the primary responsibilities. Two to four years of experience in web design and development, of which a minimum of one year ASP .Net development in Visual Basic.
- Experience working in a high pace multimedia environment setting is highly desirable.
- Advanced knowledge of .Net, XHTML, CSS.
- Knowledge of JavaScript and dynamic HTML; experience with Macromedia Flash.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
- Web Technologies: HTML, CSS, Asp.Net (VB), JavaScript (Including DHTML & AJAX), XSLT, XML, Active Server Pages (ASP)
- Advanced knowledge and experience developing on .Net-based CMS platforms. Experience with Dot Net Nuke (DNN) highly desirable.
- Attention to detail, customer-service orientation, and creativity in problem-solving.
- Ability to work in a team and to communicate in a clear way to communicate with staff and clients and the status of their projects.
- Knowledge of desktop publishing applications, and photography definite assets.
- Superior knowledge of current web-design trends and techniques, a strong online portfolio displaying user-centered design, and experience with web database solutions definite assets.
- Proven SQL Database knowledge
- Multimedia and video digitization skills as they pertain to the web desired but not required.
- AJAX experience a plus
- Adobe Flex experience a plus
- Google Analytics experience a plus
