WEB DEVELOPER

Peapod is an e-commerce grocery shopping/delivery service. We are a wholly owned subsidiary of Royal Ahold and a partner with Ahold USA supermarket companies. As our business continues to grow, we presently are seeking a Web Developer for our Corporate Office in Skokie, IL.

Peapod is a fast-paced environment that heavily embraces open source technologies in our business solutions. You'll be working as part of a small, efficient team that has a passion for the products and services we deliver.

Responsibilities include:

• Convert image mockups and Functional Requirements into fully-functional static/dynamic pages with minimal direction.
• Work with Product Managers and Business Analysts to resolve functional, flow or design issues.
• Maintain and support current code base, including some content changes.
• Troubleshoot and resolve cross-browser issues in a timely manner.
• Work with other developers and Content team to implement new functionality and projects, as needed.
• Code to current web standards and follow best practices, including techniques for web accessibility.
• Set up and maintain personal development environment.
• Budget time to effectively balance new development with maintenance tasks.
• Participate in support rotation.
• Troubleshoot production issues.

Qualifications:

• In-depth experience with open-source tools and technologies. We really can't stress this one enough. Almost everything we do, from front to back, is built around open-source applications and tools. If you cannot set up and maintain your own GNU/Linux desktop and development environment, ssh onto a server to support code you've written, untar a file or query a mysql database from the command line, this is not the position for you.
• Solid experience with Servlets and JSP, including EL.
• Experience with a Java-based MVC framework, ideally Spring.
• Solid experience with hand-coded CSS, XML, XHTML, Schema and DTD. This includes complex, table-less layouts and inheritance. No WYSIWYG editors.
• Solid knowledge of Javascript, including AJAX techniques and technologies, DOM, JQuery and JSON.
• Solid experience with SQL and a RDBMS. MySQL and/or Informix a plus.
• Basic knowledge of Web Services.
• Experience with SCM tools such as Subversion or CVS.
• Familiarity and some experience with scripts and scripting languages. We use Ant, Bash and Perl, so any or all of those would be a plus.
• Experience configuring and troubleshooting Apache and Tomcat servers in a *nix environment.
• Java experience a definite plus. There's an opportunity to move into heavier development if desired.
• Familiarity with SEO concepts.
• Possess a sense of design, an eye for detail and an innate desire to produce quality work.
• Have the desire and ability to trace issues to their source- even when those issues lie outside the boundaries of your code.
• Able to follow established practices where they exist, and recognize where new ones would be beneficial.
• 1-3 years of professional experience.
