ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES


 



  • Fabricate and assemble
    ductwork.


  • Weld primarily 16-20 ga
    Galvanized steel.


  • Threads the proper electrode
    wire through portable welding gun.


  • Adjusts welding unit to
    obtain amperage, voltage, wire speed, slope, and pulse, occasionally specified
    by appropriate certified welding procedure(s).

  • Starts power supply to
    produce electric current.

  • Strikes (forms) arc
    which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to workpiece and
    join edges of workpiece.

  • Manually guides
    electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of
    movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of
    metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.

  • Welds in flat,
    horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.  

  • Examines weld for bead
    size and other specifications.

  • Cleans or degreases weld
    joint or workpiece.

  • Repairs broken or
    cracked parts and fills holes.

  • Prepares broken parts
    for welding by grooving or scarfing surfaces.

  • Positions and clamps
    workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixture.

  • Tacks assemblies
    together.

  • Uses hand tools to finish
    welds, drill holes, grind coatings and prepare materials for welding or
    assembly

  • Other duties may be
    assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


High school education or GED Required


 


LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


 


 


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Able to read a tape measure up to a 16th of an inch.


 


REASONING ABILITY


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to adhere to delegation of authority and lead by instructions of management and supervision.
