Windows Server and Database Administrator - IT (Palo Alto, CA)
Position Description:
A Windows Server and Database Administrator that has managed and Windows servers and databases successfully in complex IT infrastructures environment producing highly reliable results and has developed in past high quality documentation for the support of such systems.
Job Functions:
This position's primary focus will be on supporting databases (SQL), VMware, and Windows Server. Additionally, the person in this position will work closely with other infrastructure team members in tuning Servers and Databases and other day-to-day support activities required in keeping the lights-on. As a part of keeping lights-on responsibility, the person will monitor, configure data workflows required for database refreshes for various applications.
The person in this position will be participating in designing, constructing new infrastructure models for capacity expansions projects for growing business needs. The person will be gathering required information needed for supporting infrastructure by working with cross functional groups.
The responsibility will include understanding the complex organizational workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces between various information systems, internal and external process checks and controls.
The responsibilities include updating existing documents/runbooks for changes and develop new documents/runbooks as required with a high degree of clarity and technical details and dependencies. The person will work closely with other team members for achieving group's goals. The primary work shift will be day shift. The duties will involve participating in on-call support rotation with other team members. The position will also require the candidate to be available 24x7 for addressing production incidents/problems as needed.
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate for this position will be a person who had spent 5+ years as a Server and Database Administrator, has understanding of enterprise class applications, can debug and resolve complex issues involving databases, applications and other core infrastructure components. The person in this position needs to have through understanding of databases internals, Windows OS internals and database, OS and application security best practices.
The candidate should be knowledgeable in all aspects of designing, constructing complex infrastructures. Expert level experience in multiple areas of computing technologies is required. This is a mid-level IT infrastructure support position requiring high-level problem solving and technical project management experience. In depth experience, understanding of infrastructure optimization and the ability to present alternatives once the analysis is completed is required.
The candidate should possess a mid-level technical knowledge of deployed databases (MSSQL/DB2/Oracle) and most operating systems; primarily WINDOWS/VMware. A good understanding of networking and storage subsystems and SAN various debugging utilities and procedure would be necessary for to be successful in this position. Any experience with Oracle Access Manager Suite is a plus.
Familiarity and extensive knowledge in advanced system administration tools, programming skills for writing scripts in various languages such as PowerShell, VBScript, SQL Queries and prior experience of infrastructure tasks' automation is mandatory for this position
The candidate should be action oriented, innovative, creative problem solver, quick learner, excellent communicator with an ability to turn a technical explanation into simple English for the benefit of non-technical people, agile and team player with a high degree of general business and project management understanding.
Education Level and Years of Experience:
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or related areas, applicable professional certification with 5+ years of progressive experience in IT industry is required. Masters degree will be preferred.
