General Statement of Duties: The Youth Counselor maintains a positive and growth-producing environment for children living in the residential program.


 


Essential Functions: 



  1. Promotes the Mission and Philosophy of Holy Family Institute.
  2. Demonstrates dignity and respect for residents and their families.
  3. Manages crisis situations through utilization of skills learned in agency-approved training.

  4. Utilizes agency-approved behavioral management methods.


  5. Provides for the health and safety of residents as defined by DPW regulations.


  6. Provides supervision of assigned clients.


  7. Completes required documentation in keeping with agency standards.


  8. Maintains client confidentiality.


  9. Assists residents with personal hygiene and other activities of daily living through modeling, coaching and structuring activities.


  10. Maintains a pleasant, tidy, sanitary and safe living environment for residents.


  11. Participates in team meetings and treatment planning conferences.


  12. Follows treatment goals as written in each resident’s service plan.


  13. Follows medical instructions for each resident

 


 


The major duties of this job involve connecting quickly with people in a poised, convincing, and enthusiastic way. This job will entail working at an extremely fast pace, and will require working cooperatively with and through people in order to complete tasks, and will be integral in motivating others. The job requires team or collaborative work within the organization, and will be integral in bringing out the best in others.

This job will require a strong sense of urgency, initiative, and drive to get things done correctly, with emphasis on working with and through people in the process. Understanding people well and using that understanding effectively in motivating and persuading others to act, will be an important aspect of the job.

It is important in this job for goals to be set and reached, and for tasks to be completed in a timely manner.

Decisions will many times have to be made under pressure, and will generally need the ideas and advice of others. Details will need to be handled quickly and accurately, but will not be a repetitive part of the job.

Many tasks in this job may entail selling or persuading others, and/or may entail training others in some capacity. This job will involve controlling all aspects of tasks, from the initiation, through the process and through to completion.


 


 


Minimum Qualifications:


Candidate must have a high school diploma, some experience with children in a residential setting, good verbal and written skills.  There is a pay differential if candidate possesses a Bachelor’s Degree in a social service field.


 


Valid Driver’s license and current Act 33/34 clearances and FBI Clearances are required prior to working. Additionally, candidate must be physically capable of managing client behavior. EOE/ADA
