Community Mental Health Counselor

About the Job

Hillview Mental Health Center, Inc. is a non profit community mental health center located in the Northeast San Fernando Valley. Since 1966, we have been helping people regain their health and take control of their lives.  Our mission is to help empower individuals and families affected by mental illness by assessing their needs and working collaboratively with mental health professionals to plan services that are person-centered, culturally competent and effective in promoting recovery.   


We are currently recruiting for Community Mental Health Counselors for several Hillview Outpatient Programs,  


Community Mental Health Counselors provide case management services to adults with severe and persistent mental disabilities. 


Below is a brief description of some of the duties for the positions:


  Provide counseling and case management to clients who need comprehensive and intensive services due to their mental illness and/or their co-occurring disorder issues.


  Assist clients with linkage to community resources, such as housing, finance and life skills management. 


  Work with a multidisciplinary treatment team including psychiatrists, case managers and therapists to assist clients in achieving the best possible outcomes.    


  Maintain current, complete and legible clinical records.  (Knowledge of Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Records paperwork is helpful).  


  Provide crisis intervention when needed. 


  Experience working in criminal justice and substance abuse field is helpful.    


  Bilingual Spanish-English is helpful but not required.



When considering applying for any of the above positions, please review these essential minimum requirements:


• BA/BS/BSW in mental health or human service field.


 • One to two years experience working in the mental health field.


 Able to work Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.


 Proficient with written and oral communication skills.


  Must have basic Microsoft Office Skills, specifically Word and Excel.


• Must show valid California driver’s license and current automobile insurance

  information prior to start date and thereafter, on an annual basis.  Must also maintain

  a good driving  record.
