Network Operations Specialist Summary and Essential Functions The Network Operations Specialist is part of a team that is accountable for the day-to-day operations of a complex global network. This position reports to the Supervisor of Network Operations. The Network Operations Specialist will function as a member of a team that is responsible for monitoring the health and function of the organization’s and its customer’s environments. This position is responsible for proactively monitoring the networks that it supports; troubleshooting, reporting on, and driving resolution of any failure that occurs. Strong written and verbal communications skills are required for this position. Position Description • Serve as the first level technical escalation point for troubleshooting and failure alerting. • Provide notifications to engineering and operations teams, management, and customers in the event of a negative system event, failure, or outage. • Perform initial troubleshooting and triage of network, platform, and telecom events. • Technical documentation skills are a must, and the ability to communicate concepts of highly technical nature to people with a functional business understanding will be required. • Proactively monitor all aspects of environments and delivered products. • Manage and escalate tickets with external vendors. • Monitoring process documentation for supported environments and escalation paths. • Interface with systems architects, project managers, engineers, and team members to implement customer solutions as needed. • Configure, implement, manage, and maintain IT products, services, and devices as directed by engineering. • Produce and present reports, presentations, and proposals to management as needed. • Other tasks, duties, and assignments as may arise to satisfy team or customer needs. Technical • Associates Degree in IT related field or equivalent work experience • Knowledge of network architecture and security practices • Working knowledge of IP routing protocols and Switching • Basic troubleshooting experience on routers and switches • Experience with Cisco IOS • Understanding of basic network services such as SNMP, NAT, DHCP and FTP • Knowledge of telecommunications circuits and nomenclature • Basic troubleshooting experience on Windows/RHEL servers • Active Directory • Experienced in network monitoring and alerting • Experience with network monitoring tools • Basic understanding of cloud infrastructures, virtualization, and network based storage. • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Power Point, Visio, and Word • Experienced in technical writing and documentation • Have the ability to obtain CCNA certification within 12 months of employment Professional • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written • Demonstrate commitment to providing customer-focused quality work • Attention to detail • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively given a substantial workload and priority changes • Enthusiasm for all tasks, flexibility, and a desire to learn and develop Education Preferred • Associates Degree in IT related field or equivalent work experience • Cisco Certification • Microsoft Certification • CompTIA Certification
