Cord Blood Collections Technician (San Diego, CA)

About the Job

Summary:


A public and private cord blood bank operating in California which specializes in stem cell technology such as transplantation therapy and research.  The company is seeking Cord Blood Collectors at Sharp Mary Birch in San Diego.

Core Responsibilities: 

Under supervision of the Collections Manager and Medical Director, the Collections Technician performs various tasks related to donor education and recruitment; conducts health history/family genetic history and the informed consent process; performs prescreening of donor eligibility and all tasks pertaining to cord blood collection; responsible for accurate and thorough documentation of collection and delivery information.  Applicant must have a working knowledge of:

1) Medical terminology,

2) Venipuncture using aseptic technique,

3) Knowledge of blood borne pathogen and exposure control practices, including universal precautions and the use of personal protective equipment.


Minimum Qualifications/Skills:

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must fluently speak, read, write, and understand the English. Prefer bilingual applicant in Spanish.
  • California Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Vocational Nurse with current valid license required preferred.
  • Must have phlebotomy or venipuncture experience, preferably in blood bank collections.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Must have the ability to competently use a computer including internet based software and email software.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain a courteous and cooperative working relationship with co-workers, customers, and medical staff at hospital collection sites.
  • Must work as part of a team.
  • Must be able and willing to work varied shifts and weekends if necessary or assigned.
