Corporate MDS Nurse Consultant



RN with minimum 3 years MDS experience needed to serve as company-wide MDS nurse  specialist.  The position will require frequent travel in Virginia only:  Richmond, Alexandria, and Westmoreland County. 


This position is responsible for supporting Cambridge Healthcare systems and goals related to MDS processes as developed and implemented at each Cambridge SNF.    


 Audits facility MDS coding and supportive documentation to determine accuracy and validate compliance with established Cambridge protocols as well as applicable State / Federal regulations.

Provides informal and formal education on such topics as accurate documentation of ADLs, accurate MDS coding of ADLs, and the MDS process.

Develops new hire job training program (objectives and content) for Cambridge MDS nurses and provides training as needed

Collaborates with facility MDS nurses to assist in optimizing case mix scores.

Via routine auditing, validates accuracy of MDS coding and confirms that supportive documentation is present and accurate.

Monitors facility usage of ADL system and via audit process, verifies that documentation accurately reflects the resident condition and carries over accurately onto the MDS.

Continuously maintains own knowledge of regulatory and Cambridge compliance standards related to the MDS process and communicates changes / updates to facility MDS departments in an effective and timely manner.

Maintains comprehensive knowledge and understanding of MDS coding specifications as published by CMS.

Maintains AANAC certification as a RAC-CT.

Works as a liaison between facility MDS nurses and software vendor to resolve any MDS related software issues.

Reviews MDS reports in company software system including PPS registers, late assessment reports, case mix reports, and other reports as needed.

Works closely with corporate business office and MDS Director in each facility during billing period.

Makes recommendations to facility Administrator and MDS personnel regarding plans to improve efficiency of MDS department, improvement in coding, and improvements in other aspects of departmental operations as needed.

Conducts a verbal exit conference with the Administrator and/or MDS Director at the end of each facility visit.



            Graduate of an accredited school of nursing in preparation for Registered Nurse license.  BSN preferred.  AANAC RAC Certification.      



            Five to seven years long term care clinical and supervisory experience.  Strong understanding of CMS guidelines related to the MDS process in SNF setting. 


Other Requirements:

1.            Must be a Registered Nurse licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing.

2.            Must have valid Virginia Driver’s License.


This position reports directly to the Cambridge VP of Clinical Services with whom he or she will maintain frequent communication.   Learn more about Cambridge at
