Director of Attorney Development
The Director of Attorney Development is responsible for all aspects of the Firm’s Attorney Development area. The position can be relocated to our New York office, however, the slight preference is our Chicago office.
The Director of Attorney Development will collaborate with firm management and department heads to design and implement firmwide attorney training and development curriculum aligned to support firm-wide and department-specific needs.
Solicit feedback from attorneys regarding training and development efforts via focus groups, surveys and meetings. Plan and execute various training and development retreats.
Oversee firmwide MCLE administration and tracking and conduct training programs when appropriate.
Lead performance management process for all counsel, associates and staff attorneys, including mid-year and year-end evaluations and career planning process.
Act as a resource, liaison, coach and ombudsman on a wide variety of attorney issues.
Maintain current knowledge of attorney development trends and innovations in the market.
Bachelor’s degree and ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in the area of attorney professional development, preferably in a large law firm environment or professional services environment is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer proficient with knowledge and understanding of various database systems including CE Manager, viDesktop and Microsoft Office Suite programs. Ability to learn, utilize, and implement specialized attorney development-related technological databases in order to streamline the attorney development process.
Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with diplomacy, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, staff, and outside contacts.
Exhibit high degree of initiative, critical-thinking skills, and the ability to work independently.
Supervisory/managerial skills necessary to provide instruction/direction/training, determine work priorities, and coordinate the activities of a work team.
